Methodology

How TripSignal hotel signals and guides are built

What our numbers mean, where they come from, and what we will not claim without a source.

TripSignal is a signal-led hotel product, not a travel magazine. Pricing snapshots, guest scores, and event guides all tie back to curated hotel records the founder maintains — with date stamps, disclosed limitations, and links to live signal pages where you can validate rates before booking.

Data sources

  • Guest scores and review countsPulled from public booking-platform guest ratings at the time each hotel was added or last refreshed. Counts reflect reviews aggregated into TripSignal's hotel records — not live API feeds on every page view.
  • Signal pricesManually researched sample rates compared against a curated reference price for the same property. Each snapshot is date-stamped on the hotel signal page so you can see when it was last checked.
  • Event dates and venuesChecked against official event sites before publication. Guides include a verified date when timing is time-sensitive. We update when organizers change dates or venues.
  • Editorial hotel picksHand-selected for neighborhood fit, signal strength, and traveler use case. Affiliate relationships do not change ranking order. When a pick is a close call, we say so.

Refresh cadence

  • Destination and hotel signal pages: rolling manual refresh — typically every 2–4 weeks for active markets, or sooner when a major event approaches.
  • Event hotel guides: fact-check pass when official dates publish or change; pricing language always points back to live hotel signal pages.
  • Blog publish dates show when a guide was written; updatedAt changes when we materially revise facts or picks.

What we do not claim

  • Off-peak signal prices are planning anchors, not guaranteed event-week rates.
  • We do not publish unsourced percentage spikes for conventions or festivals.
  • Guest scores summarize public review data — they are not independent on-site inspections.
  • AI assists drafting; the founder reviews facts, hotel IDs, and pricing references before publish.
